About Me !
Hello Everyone. I am Daniel Sunil Mahanty. I am a banker who switched tracks midway in his career to foray into information systems security. I began my career as a management trainee in State Bank of India, a major commercial bank in India and Fortune 500 company.
It all began with a fortuitous assignment as Manager of a zonal Data Centre of the bank. Though programmers took care of the technical work, I was bitten by the technology bug and decided to give the CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) certification a shot. I passed at first attempt – and with a pretty high score!
The newly-acquired CISA certification earned me a place in the Information Security Department of the bank. What followed was more certifications in information systems audit, security and risk: CISSP, CRISC, ISO 27001 LA, ITIL (Found.), CIA. From that point onwards, I never went back to mainstream banking and spent the rest of my career in information systems security, audit and risk.
I passed all my exams at first attempt, while some with better technical skills were not as fortunate, for one simple reason: I took care to understand the concepts and looked at everything from the prism of risk.
I embarked on CISSP training with some trepidation, after a well-known institute approached me. The feedback was surprisingly good: Candidates said I explained concepts clearly with examples drawn from my professional career, rather than rehash what was in the books. Today my client list includes the following:
